What is Infertility?

Wed, 20 Aug 2025

According to WHO, 15% of couples worldwide experience infertility. It is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. The causes may come from women—such as hormonal disorders, endometriosis, or blocked fallopian tubes—or from men, including low sperm count, abnormal shape, or poor motility. Environmental factors, stress, smoking, and alcohol consumption also play a role. Symptoms in women may include irregular menstrual cycles or obesity, while men may experience decreased libido or low sperm count. The good news is, infertility can be treated through hormonal therapy, lifestyle changes, or medical interventions.
