Triglycerides: Benefits vs Risks

Mon, 22 Jun 2026

Hello #sahabatpramita. Maintaining the body's nutritional balance is an essential health investment. One important component that requires routine attention is triglycerides. By definition, triglycerides are a type of fat circulating in the blood and various organs of the body. This fat is classified as organic and is primarily formed from the food we consume, where triglycerides are specifically formed in the liver.

When maintained at normal levels, the presence of this fat is incredibly crucial. Triglycerides are primarily used by the body to provide energy for metabolic processes. This substance acts as the main energy source for various bodily activities. Aside from serving as fuel, triglycerides also function as a cushion for bones and vital organs, protecting these organs from shock or damage.

However, major health issues arise if the levels become uncontrolled. Triglyceride levels will increase if the consumed caloric intake is higher than what is actually needed. An excess of triglycerides can cause the narrowing of blood vessels and significantly increase the risk of a heart attack.

To accurately monitor your lipid profile condition, it is highly recommended to undergo a Triglyceride Test. This examination should ideally be conducted periodically, especially if there are triggering factors such as excessive weight gain (obesity) or advancing age. The examination sample generally used in the triglyceride test is serum extracted from venous blood. Regarding the preparation requirements, doctors will typically require patients to fast prior to the test to ensure lipid levels are perfectly stable. Additionally, the blood collection position should ideally be seated to effectively prevent a reduction in blood plasma volume.
