Types of Leukemia

Leukemia is generally divided into two main categories:

  1. Acute Leukemia
Commonly affects children and adolescents. The white blood cells involved are typically immature and grow rapidly.

    • Recurring fevers

    • Persistent infections

    • Bone and joint pain

    • Fatigue and paleness

  2. Chronic Leukemia
More frequently affects adults and the elderly. The white blood cells are usually mature and develop more slowly.
Symptoms often go unnoticed in the early stages and may only appear in advanced stages or during routine lab tests.

Based on Cell Origin, Leukemia is Classified into 4 Types:

  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
