Indonesia Is More Than Just a Beautiful Land

Indonesia is not only about breathtaking landscapes or captivating cultural riches. More than that, Indonesia is a story of spirit, sacrifice, and selfless struggle. One of the most important chapters in the nation’s journey is the involvement of young people who bravely fought against colonialism for one sacred word: INDEPENDENCE.

Dear PRAMITA Friends, many young people—some not even 25 years old—chose the path of resistance. Amid limited access to information, oppressive colonizers, and the risk of losing their lives, they stood firm, carrying an unquenchable flame of passion.

Youth: Not Mere Spectators of History

As Indonesia approached its independence, young people played a pivotal role—not just as supporters, but as drivers of change. Some of their names are forever etched in golden ink in history as symbols of courage and love for the homeland.

  • Chairil Anwar: Although known as a poet, his works stirred the spirit of resistance. He passed away at just 26, but poems like “Aku” and “Diponegoro” continue to ignite nationalism.

  • Soekarni: During the Rengasdengklok incident, Soekarni was only 25. Along with other young activists, he urged Bung Karno and Bung Hatta to proclaim Indonesia’s independence without Japanese interference.

  • Wikana and Chaerul Saleh: These two were among the youth who initiated the abduction of Soekarno and Hatta to Rengasdengklok. Despite being under 25, they shouldered the weight of history.

  • Siti Manggopoh: In her twenties, she led a people’s resistance in West Sumatra against Dutch colonialists. Her name may not be as famous as other figures, but her sacrifice was extraordinary.

Learning from Their Burning Spirit

Today’s youth may not face armed colonialism, but modern-day challenges await. Loving Indonesia today doesn’t require bamboo spears. It only takes compassion for others, a hunger to learn, protecting the environment, and spreading positive values—this is how you carry the torch of those who came before.

The spirit of past youth proves that age is not a barrier to greatness. In fact, youth is the time when character and courage are truly tested. Being a young Indonesian today means continuing the flame of struggle—through innovation, ideas, and a passion for building the nation.

Closing: Independence Is Our Responsibility

Loving Indonesia isn’t just about songs or waving flags—it’s about having the courage to contribute. Let us follow the example of our young heroes and embrace pride in being part of a nation built with blood and tears.

"I Love Indonesia" is not just a slogan—it’s the identity and responsibility of every young soul. So, let’s keep that spirit alive!
