Beware of Diseases During the Transitional Season
Wed, 26 Nov 2025Beware of Diseases During the Transitional Season
Hello, PRAMITA friends. Without realizing it, we’ve entered the transitional season — the shift from dry to rainy season. During this time, weather changes can be extreme, including temperature, air pressure, and humidity. It can be hot during the day and cold or damp at night. These fluctuations can weaken the immune system and create an ideal environment for viruses, bacteria, and mosquitoes to thrive.
Several illnesses tend to appear during this season, and it’s important to recognize them early to prevent complications.
1. Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI)
ARI is one of the most common illnesses during the transition period. Symptoms include coughing, runny nose, fever, and sometimes shortness of breath. Humid air allows respiratory viruses to spread easily, especially in closed spaces with poor ventilation. Hand hygiene, wearing masks, and keeping distance from those who are ill can help prevent transmission.
2. Diarrhea
Diarrhea is characterized by increased frequency of bowel movements with watery stools, abdominal pain, and sometimes fever. Extreme weather changes may encourage bacterial and viral growth that contaminates food and water. Always wash your hands before eating, and make sure the food and drinks consumed are clean and safe.
3. Dengue Fever
Unstable rainfall during the transitional season often causes stagnant water — the perfect breeding ground for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Regularly draining water containers, covering water tanks, and recycling unused items can help prevent mosquito breeding.
A healthy body is not a coincidence but a conscious choice. Prevention takes effort, but it’s much lighter than treatment. Start from small steps at home — maintain cleanliness, eat nutritious foods, get enough rest, and do regular health check-ups.
