What is the difference between tuberculosis (TB) and pneumonia?

Wed, 25 Mar 2026

Indonesia, as a tropical country, is rich in natural beauty, but also in infectious diseases such as TB and pneumonia.
Both affect the lungs, but their symptoms are different.

TB is usually characterized by a cough lasting more than two weeks, accompanied by a prolonged mild fever, weight loss, night sweats, and a feeling of weakness.

Pneumonia, on the other hand, tends to appear more suddenly. It involves a productive cough lasting less than two weeks, a sudden high fever, and may be accompanied by shortness of breath.

The good news is that both TB and pneumonia can be treated if detected early and managed properly. Don’t ignore a persistent cough—get it checked and make sure of the cause.
