Regurgitation, Is it Normal?
Tue, 28 Feb 2023Regurgitation is a normal physiological condition in infants. Approximately 60% of 4-month-old babies regurgitate at least once per day, and the frequency decreases with age.
There is nothing to worry about regurgitation in infants as long as the baby grows and develops normally, and there are no accompanying conditions such as difficulty to swallow food and liquids, irritability, or avoidance during eating.
Regurgitation in infants can be related to the immaturity of their gastrointestinal system, particularly the lower esophageal sphincter (the door between the esophagus and the stomach).
Parents can ease regurgitation in baby by burping the baby during feeding and as long as possible after feeding (by wiping the baby's back so that the gas in the stomach can escape).
When the baby is supine, the second step is to provide a 60-degree angle between the bed base and the waist. Maintain this state for 1.5-2 hours.
