Myth/Fact: Hepatitis is a genetic disease that is passed from parents to children.

In fact, Hepatitis is not a genetic disease and is not inherited. However, Hepatitis B is often passed from mother to child during childbirth. Transmission from the mother can be prevented if her HBV status is known and immunoglobulins and vaccines are given to newborns within 12 hours of birth.
