Know Your Heart Risk Before Symptoms Appear
Thu, 15 Oct 2026Heart disease is an important health concern because, in some individuals, it may develop without obvious symptoms. Signs may only become noticeable when the condition has progressed or complications have occurred.
Recognizing cardiovascular risk factors early is therefore an important part of maintaining heart health. Screening may be particularly relevant for people with high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, smoking habits, overweight or obesity, a family history of heart disease, or other cardiovascular risk factors.
Several laboratory tests may support cardiovascular risk assessment. A lipid profile measures cholesterol and triglyceride levels, while fasting blood glucose and HbA1c help assess blood glucose status and long-term glycemic control. Urea and creatinine provide information about kidney function, which is closely associated with cardiovascular health.
In selected individuals, doctors may also consider high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) as an inflammatory marker that can contribute to cardiovascular risk assessment when interpreted alongside other clinical factors. These tests do not, by themselves, confirm the presence of blocked coronary arteries.
The earlier cardiovascular risk factors are identified, the sooner appropriate preventive and management strategies can be considered.
Consult a doctor to determine which examinations are appropriate for your individual health condition.
