HORMONE EXAMINATION IN CASE OF INFERTILITY

Fri, 4 Mar 2022
Infertility is defined as a disorder of the reproductive system that results in failure to achieve clinical pregnancy after 12 months of regular intercourse without the use of contraception.

Examination is needed to support the cause of infertility, including laboratory tests for hormones.
I. EXAMINATION ON WOMEN
Ovulation disorders occur in about 15% of infertile couples and account for about 40% of female infertility.

A. Progesterone hormone test
Women who have regular menstrual cycles and have been infertile for 1 year are recommended to confirm ovulation by measuring the middle luteal phase serum progesterone level (days 21-28).

Examination of serum progesterone levels needs to be done in women who have long menstrual cycles (oligomenorrhea). The examination is carried out at the end of the cycle (days 28-35) and can be repeated every week until the next menstrual cycle occurs.

B. FSH and LH Pemeriksaan examination
Women with irregular menstrual cycles are advised to have blood tests to measure levels of gonadotropin hormones (FSH and LH).

C. Prolactin Examination
Examination of prolactin hormone levels can be done to see if there are ovulation disorders, galactorrhea, or pituitary tumors.

D. Examination of AMH levels
This examination is done to determine the ovarian reserve.
II. EXAMINATION ON MEN

Tests for testosterone and serum FSH.
When clinically found that the patient suffers from an endocrinological disorder.

PATIENT PREPARATION AND EXAMINATION MATERIALS
