EXAMINATION OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
Wed, 8 Nov 2023Currently, there are quite a lot of diseases that attack or impact the digestive organs. Whether caused by infection, lifestyle, or malignancy. It is important for us to check ourselves if there are complaints in the digestive organs, whether accompanied by fever or not. To confirm diseases of the digestive system, a whole series of examinations may be needed as follows:
1. History
Questions and answers with the doctor regarding complaints, onset, aggravating and alleviating factors, precipitating factors, history of current disease, history of previous disease, family history of disease and socio-economic history.
2. Physical examination
This is done by a doctor, starting from checking vital signs to examining the stomach and surrounding area.
3. Laboratory and non-laboratory examinations
a. Typhoid fever
- Complete hematological examination
- Widal
- IgM anti-Salmonella
- Tubex (can be done on the 3rd or 4th day of fever)
b. Diarrhea
- Electrolytes
- Routine stools
c. Hepatitis
- Heart function (SGOT, SGPT)
- Anti-HAV
d. Stomach
- Urea Breath Test (UBT)
- IgG IgM Helicobacter Pylori
e. GERD
- Upper and Lower Abdomen Ultrasound
- Plain Photo of the Abdomen in 3 Positions
- Oesophageal Contrast Photo and Maagduodenography
- Endoscopy.
The above examination is carried out by taking blood, feces and also radiology. Some tests require special preparations such as fasting or giving fluids.
