Don't Skip Exercise During Ramadan

Sat, 1 Apr 2023

While fasting, some people might make an exercise schedule in advance since some people prefer to exercise before Iftar and others after.

Research has shown that fasting for 30 consecutive days without performing any physical exercise or activity reduces strength and physical fitness. Exercise should be performed with consideration for high temperatures.

When is the ideal time for someone who is fasting to exercise?

  1. Before Iftar

When exercising before iftar, safety precautions should be taken and appropriate procedures should be followed. Exercise should be limited to no more than 60 minutes right before Iftar, preferably in an air-conditioned area. After breaking your fast, make sure to have enough drinks and water to replace the salts and minerals your body has lost, then get some rest.

  1. Post-Iftar

Minimal three hours after breaking the fast is the right time to perform physical exercise, preferably in an air-conditioned, as the body has completed the digestion process.

Guidelines and advice for working out during Ramadan

  1. Every day, spend at least 30 minutes performing physical activity in a cool environment.
  2. Avoid doing intense, intense exercise during the day, especially in the heat.
  3. During Ramadan, pick a favorable time to exercise, such as right before Iftar or two to three hours after Iftar. Avoid physical activity right after breaking your fast because your body will be entirely focused on digesting food. If you feel faint, queasy, have trouble breathing, or have chest pain, stop any physical activity right once. Between Iftar and Suhour, have enough water to prevent dehydration while fasting.
