DIAGNOSIS OF BONE CANCER

According to American Cancer Society, bone cancers are rare. Bone cancer is an uncommon type of cancer that begins when cells in the bone start to grow out of control and harm the normal bone tiisue leading to disability or inability to perform daily activities.


Here are tests can be carried out to diagnose Bone Cancer

  1. Laboratory Examination

Blood tests are needed to diagnose bone cancer, as they are helpful once a diagnosis is made.  

Complete blood count can be done altogether with tumor marker tests. Tumor marker can also inform the type of cell and tissue where cancer begins or Find out whether cancer has spread from or to other parts of your body

For example, high levels of chemicals in the blood such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) can suggest that the cancer may be more advanced.

  1. Biopsy

      Histopathology is the diagnosis and study of diseases of the tissues, and involves examining tissues and/or cells under a microscope. This can help to determine the type and level of tumor malignancy .

  1. Radiological Examination

X Ray tests can help determine the location and size of bone tumors, and whether the tumors have spread to other parts of the body. This will also show the damage, growth, and possible fractures that it might occur.

  1. MRI or CT scan

      Describes the larger dimensions of the tumor, the spread of the tumor to surrounding tissues including nearby blood vessels and nerves as well as joints.
