Broken Heart Syndrome

Thu, 3 Aug 2023

Broken heart syndrome or stress cardiomyopathy is a medical condition that occurs when someone experiences sudden and severe stress. This condition can cause symptoms similar to a heart attack, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and irregular heartbeat.

Broken heart syndrome usually occurs in women over the age of 50, but can occur in anyone. This condition can be caused by various factors, such as the loss of a loved one, work stress, or traumatic events. Although the symptoms are similar to a heart attack, broken heart syndrome is not caused by blockages in the coronary arteries.

Instead, this condition is caused by a disturbance in the heart muscle caused by stress. Treatment for broken heart syndrome usually involves stress management and cardiac rehabilitation. Some patients may require medication to control symptoms and prevent complications.

If you experience symptoms similar to a heart attack, seek medical help immediately. Although broken heart syndrome is not dangerous, its symptoms can resemble a heart attack and require prompt treatment.
