ALLERGY CHECK IN BABIES
Thu, 10 Nov 2022
With the frequent occurrence of several allergic diseases in infants such as: Urticaria (Hives / Kaligata), Atopic Dermatitis (eczema), Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis (cold due to allergies), this makes concerns arise for mothers and fathers, because these diseases often occur repeatedly and can cause complications or developmental disorders.
To help determine the allergen that triggers allergy symptoms, the following tests can be done:
• Examining anamnesis/ medical history
• Physical examination
• Laboratory investigations.
LABORATORY SUPPORTING EXAMINATION
There are several blood tests that can be done as an allergy test in babies. These include inspections:
- Eosinophils, Total IgE and Specific IgE.
- Measurement of specific Immunogobulin E (IgE) levels in the blood which aims to determine the presence of specific IgE against an allergen (allergy triggering substance).
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an antibody that plays a role in the allergic process.
The PRAMITA Clinical Laboratory provides specific IgE tests for 96 types, meaning that it provides results of examinations for 96 types of allergens consisting of food allergens and inhalation allergens.
To perform allergy testing on this baby does not require special preparation beforehand and a blood sample is needed from a vein.
