Mon, 27 Feb 2023Why is my arm bruised after a blood draw? #sahabatpramita, have you ever had a similar experience? What is the reason for this? Is it dangerous? What can be done to deal with the bruise?
Bruising after a blood draw happens when there is the blood vessels beneath the skin are torn, causing a small amount of blood to leak and fill the tissue beneath the skin's surface.
There are several factors that can increase the likelihood of bruising after a blood draw, including:
- Bending the elbow or carrying heavy items after drawing blood
- The patient's medical condition, including blood clotting disorders and chemotherapy patients
Here are some ways to deal with bruises:
- Compress the bruised area with ice cubes wrapped in a cloth or towel for 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times per day.
- Apply warm, moist compresses for 20 minutes to relieve pain 48 hours after blood collection.
- Use pain relievers (preferably paracetamol) to alleviate bruising pain.
- Avoid activities that are too strenuous on bruising-prone areas of the body.
If the bruises do not heal within two weeks, see a doctor right away..
