The Difference Between Plain X-Ray and Contrast X-Ray
Thu, 29 Aug 2024X-ray Imaging is a procedure that captures images of the body's structures using X-ray radiation. X-rays are a special form of radiation with very high energy, allowing them to penetrate the body and produce an image. Besides detecting health issues, X-rays can also be used as an adjunct procedure in certain medical actions.
In an X-ray image, solid objects like bones appear white, while the air in the lungs appears black, and fat or muscle shows up as gray. This procedure helps doctors diagnose, monitor, and treat various conditions.
A plain X-ray involves using X-rays to examine an organ without the use of contrast agents. The term "plain" means that no contrast agents are injected or ingested by the patient.
A contrast X-ray is a simple procedure that uses X-rays along with a contrast agent to evaluate abnormalities. An example of a contrast X-ray is HSG (Hysterosalpingography). HSG is an X-ray test used to assess the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes, often performed to investigate infertility issues in women.
Contrast agents are substances introduced into the body to enhance imaging results. These liquid contrast agents are detected by X-ray, allowing us to see leaks, the flow direction of the contrast fluid, blockages, and other details that may not be visible without this method.
Contrast agents can cause allergic reactions in some people. Common allergy symptoms include nausea, vomiting, itching, headache, and skin redness.
Generally, X-rays do not cause complications. Although radiation carries a risk of cancer cell growth, the exposure from X-rays is minimal and considered safe.
Pramita Lab offers both plain and contrast X-ray services to assist doctors in diagnostic accuracy. Pramita Lab uses advanced radiology equipment and provides excellent imaging results. Services for plain X-rays include Thorax, Cervical, Lumbo-Sacral, Genu, Manus, Shoulder, Tarsalia, Ankle, Panoramic, Cephalometry, CBCT, and more. Contrast X-ray services include HSG, IVP, Colon In Loop, Appendicogram, and others.
