TBC DISEASE CHECK

Fri, 8 Apr 2022
Several types of investigations that can be done to help or confirm someone is infected with TBC, namely:
1. Tuberculosis Skin Test
The tuberculosis skin test is also known as the Mantoux test. A skin test is performed by injecting a fluid called tuberculin into the skin on the underside of the arm. The results of this test are limited to showing whether you are infected with the TB bacteria or not. Active or inactive infection cannot be determined. Generally, the Mantoux test is recommended for pediatric patients under five years of age.
2. IGRA test
Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRA) is a blood test used to assist in the diagnosis of Tuberculosis (TB) and Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI). This test measures the cellular immune response to M. tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). Leukocyte cells from a person infected with M. tuberculosis will release interferon-gamma (IFN-y) when given an antigen from M. tuberculosis. Furthermore, the amount of Interferon-Gamma (IFN-y) was measured to determine the interpretation of the examination results. A positive result indicates a possible M. tuberculosis infection, whereas a negative result indicates a possible absence of infection. While the indeterminate results indicate the possibility of infection that is not certain.

3. Sputum BTA SPS
This examination is also known as the sputum test or BTA (acid-fast bacilli). The purpose of AFB examination is to analyze sputum samples under a microscope to detect the presence and number of TB bacteria. The level of accuracy of this test is greater than the tuberculosis skin test. In Indonesia, the Ministry of Health uses the BTA test as the main diagnostic method for TB, which is supported by a chest x-ray or chest X-ray, as well as sensitivity testing in the early stages of disease detection.
4. Lung X-ray
X-ray examination aims to complete the diagnosis from the results of skin and sputum tests. X-rays of the lungs can show signs of lung damage caused by tuberculosis bacterial infection.
