Symptoms of Cancer in Children
Thu, 16 Feb 2023There are many types of cancer, but some can affect children under the age of 18, and even an unborn baby.
There are 3 types of cancer that are common in children: leukemia, retinoblastoma and osteosarcoma. Recognize the symptoms of these cancers in children:
1. Leukemia is a malignant blood cell disease that originates in the bone marrow. Common symptoms include: pale skin; fatigue; irritability; bruising or spontaneous bleeding; testicular enlargement and hardness in boys.
2.Retinoblastoma is a malignant eye cancer that begins in the retina, which commonly affects children under the age of 5. Symptoms include: a visible whiteness in the center circle of the eye (pupil) called ”cat’s eye reflex”; squinting; eye redness; enlarged eyeball,; inflammation of the eyeball tissue; and blurred vision.
3. Osteosarcoma, or bone cancer, characterized by the following symptoms: bone pain at night or after exertion; swelling, redness, and warmth in the area of the bone pain; weak bones that may lead to fractures after regular activity; restricted bone movement; persistent back pain; fever, rapid fatigue, weight loss and pallor.
