STOMACH DISEASE EXAMINATION
Thu, 15 Sep 2022
In diagnosing acid reflux disease, the doctor will ask the patient's symptoms. Symptoms of acid reflux or stomach acid reflux is considered a disease if the symptoms appear at least 2 times a week. After that, the doctor will perform a physical examination.
Doctors can also perform follow-up examinations to determine the severity of the disease and see possible complications. The follow-up checks are:
▪︎ UBT examination is needed to detect the presence of Helicobacter pylori bacteria, both for diagnosis and for monitoring treatment. UBT is a non-invasive gold standard for detecting Helicobacter pylori. The examination process only takes two minutes with a high level of accuracy (about 98%), besides that there is also an examination of Helicobacter pylori that can be taken from blood and faeces samples.
▪︎ ECG examination aims to see the presence of coronary heart disease or heart attack, because these two diseases cause symptoms similar to GERD, namely chest pain.
▪︎ Gastroscopy or endoscopy examination uses special tools such as a camera tube, to detect inflammation of the esophagus or esophagus (esophagitis) due to rising stomach acid. With this examination, a tissue sample from the esophagus can be taken and examined under a microscope (esophageal biopsy).
▪︎ Esophageal manometry, this test is done to check the rhythm of muscle movement when swallowing, and measure the strength of the esophagus muscles
▪︎ X-ray of the upper digestive tract (OMD X-ray)
This examination is done to see the cavity of the upper digestive tract and its lining. If there is inflammation or narrowing of the esophagus will be seen in the photo.
▪︎ Measurement of the level of acidity (pH) of the esophagus
This measurement is done by inserting a tube or catheter into the esophagus. This tube is connected to a computer to measure the acidity of the esophagus when the sufferer performs daily activities, such as eating or sleeping.
