Overweight Because of Dinner? Myth or Fact?

Sun, 19 May 2024

Many people mistakenly believe that dinner is the main cause of weight gain. However, this is just a myth. Research suggests that eating dinner does not directly lead to becoming overweight, as long as it is done wisely.

When night falls, our bodies are still active. Even while we sleep, the metabolic process continues. One crucial function during sleep is fat burning. The body utilizes stored glucose in the form of glycogen in the liver to maintain stable blood sugar levels.

During evening meals, glycogen gets converted into glucose and released into the bloodstream. Nevertheless, if daily calorie intake exceeds bodily needs, unused glycogen will be stored as fat, leading to weight gain.

However, this doesn't mean skipping dinner is necessary. On the contrary, it's essential to choose appropriate types of food. Avoid high-fat foods and opt for items rich in fiber, protein but low in calories instead like vegetables or fruits along with light proteins such as skinless chicken or fish.

Moreover it's vital to pay attention to meal timings too—it's advisable not to eat too late at night or go straight to bed after a meal; Allow your body at least 3 hours before sleeping time for proper digestion.
