Have you ever heard the story about putting a plaster on a child's navel to prevent motion sickness? Well, as funny as it sounds, that's just a myth, guys!
According to Dr. Felix Samuel, General Practitioner and Head of the Emergency Unit at Pondok Indah Hospital, putting a plaster on a child's navel has nothing to do with preventing motion sickness. So, what is the right way to avoid motion sickness? Let's find out!
Motion sickness occurs because our eyes and ears are not in sync. Therefore, the most effective way to prevent it is by talking or looking at the scenery outside when traveling in a car or bus. Why? To keep our body feeling balanced. Usually, when we're busy with our phones or focusing on one point, our eyes are fixed there while our body (especially ears) still senses movement. This imbalance can cause symptoms like dizziness, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and loss of appetite.
Moreover, motion sickness can also be caused by stress or anxiety. So if you feel anxious before traveling,it can trigger motion sickness too.
In essence, avoid motion sickness by balancing your eyes and earsand don't forget to relax and unwind. So don't believe in myths like putting plasters on navels! Most importantly, enjoy your journey the right wayand stay healthy.Safe travels!
