Myth/Fact: Women Can't Get Kidney Stones

Mon, 13 Dec 2021
Kidney stones are calcified material that forms in the kidneys and can travel to the urinary tract. According to Dr Chin Chong Min, a urology specialist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, the disease is 3 times more common in men than women. However, women can still get kidney stones and getting them out of your system can be very painful!

Men are more likely to experience kidney stones from the age of 40 years and over. Women usually experience it at a later age, starting from the age of 50 and above. However, that doesn't mean you won't get it before you reach that age. "Sometimes, kidney stones are also experienced by those who are 30 years old," said Dr Chin.
