Mon, 30 Nov 2020
Many times we hear information that suggests several activities women should avoid while menstruating, one of which is prohibition to drink cold water, it is said that cold drinks and

food can make blood clot in the uterus and gradually turn into cysts. Myth/Fact?

It is a Myth! In fact, women's menstrual cycle isinfluenced by the balance of estrogen and progesteronehormones . The balance of these two hormones is greatly influenced by physical and psychological health. Cold drinks do not affect hormonal balance in women and do not affect menstrual cycle, either smoothing or inhibiting menstruation.

An article published by NDTV Food, stated there is an ancient Chinese study that mentions the correlation between cold food and drinks and menstruation.

According to the study, drinking cold water during menstruation can upset the body's balance.

Finally,  skin and body health becomes disturbed. Scientifically, cold food and drinks may trigger the production of prostaglandins.

Prostaglandin are substances that may trigger muscle contraction of the uterine wall which then leads to menstruation. Health practitioner Shilpa Arora told NDTV Food that cold food and drinks can strain the area around the uterus.

During menstruation, blood flow must be smooth so that the uterine wall and surrounding organs can be relaxed.
