Medical Check-Up for the Elderly
Sun, 9 Jun 2024Maintaining health is important, especially as we age. Like a vehicle that requires regular servicing, our bodies also need periodic check-ups to stay energetic. So, for friends who are already in the senior category, also known as elderly, here are some things to pay attention to regarding medical check-ups. Let's take a look together!
Medical Check-Up for the Elderly: Really Important!
Once we pass the age of 60, our doctor's schedule gets busier. Some important examinations that usually make it into the routine check-up list include:
Blood Pressure: Who says it's only for the young? Well, for those who have reached the age range of 60 years, checking blood pressure is also necessary! So we know how our heart and blood vessels are doing.
Height: Don't be surprised if by this age, we start feeling like we're shrinking. Well, checking height is also important. It could be a sign of osteoporosis if suddenly we're getting shorter.
Weight: Drastic weight gain or loss without clear reasons could be a sign of serious problems. So, don't forget to check your weight too.
Blood Tests: This is super important for early detection of all sorts of diseases, from diabetes to thyroid problems.
EKG: This is specifically for those who are 50 years old and above. So we can check the health of our heart more deeply.
Stool Examination: It's not pleasant to talk about, but it's important. If there's blood in the stool, it could be an early sign of colon cancer.
Colonoscopy or Sigmoidoscopy: This is even more specific for checking the health of the large intestine. It's really important for detecting cancer.
So, for those who feel fit and healthy, don't slack off on regular check-ups. So we can continue to live a healthy life and stay away from problems. Also, for male and female friends above 50 years old, there are some additional examinations that are important to do:
For Men: Checking the prostate is important, guys! It could be a sign of cancer.
For Women: Don't forget to check the breasts and also have a Pap smear regularly. It's really important for early detection of cancer.
Anyway, even though we're entering our twilight years, we can still be healthy and happy as long as we diligently check our health. May all our lives always be full of
happiness and health!
