Lebaran = "Revenge" ?

Tue, 18 Apr 2023

Lebaran, commonly known as Eid Al-Fitr, is a day that Muslims eagerly anticipate not just in Indonesia but all throughout the world. Eid is synonymous with a family get-together and the tradition of dining with relatives. On Eid, a variety of foods and beverages are served. Lontong opor ayam, rendang, meatball soup, Eid cakes, snacks, and sweet beverages are typical meal items in Indonesia.

After having fasted for roughly 30 days during the month of Ramadan, within 13–14 hours each day, some people use Eid or Lebaran as a time of revenge to eat as much as they desire. This phenomena, however, cannot be justified.

Why? Because it may have a negative effect on the body, such as drastically increasing weight and elevating blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Four recommendations for keeping a healthy diet should be taken into account and put into practice during Eid:

• Reduce Food Consumption and Avoid High-Calorie Foods: Foods Rich in Fat and Containing Coconut Milk

During Eid, we frequently feel the want to sample every dish that is placed on the table. It is fine to sample every dish offered, but be careful not to eat too much of it. Use small plates to reduce the amount of food you consume.

• Increase Fruit and Vegetable Intake

Try to eat fruits and vegetables during Eid. To meet your needs for micronutrients, make sure to include fruits and vegetables on your plate in addition to protein-rich foods. The World Health Organization (WHO) advises consuming at least 400 grams of fruits and vegetables per person each day.

Fruit and vegetables are known to be a good source of dietary fiber, antioxidants, carotenoids, phytosterols, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds, all of which are beneficial to the body .

• Consume less sugar

During Eid, sweet dishes and beverages are frequently served. It's okay to taste sweets during Eid, but pay attention to the portion sizes. Sugar consumption raises the risk of obesity, diabetes, and tooth cavities .

Drink plenty of water after consuming sweet meals and beverages. The Republic of Indonesia's Ministry of Health advises consuming 8 glasses, or 2 liters, of water per day .

• Work out Regularly

Last but not least, take time to do some exercises. Indonesia's Ministry of Health advises moderate intensity exercise for 30 minutes each day or 150 minutes per week.
