GALLSTONE EXAMINATION PANEL

Wed, 20 Dec 2023

When gallstones are accompanied by several symptoms, it is advisable to seek immediate medical attention. Pramita's friends can consult a doctor to receive appropriate treatment.

Here are some examinations typically performed by doctors to accurately diagnose gallstones:

1. Laboratory Tests

  • Various laboratory tests can be conducted, such as complete blood count, liver function tests (such as SGOT, SGPT, ALP, Bilirubin), lipid profile, and a complete urine analysis.

2. Abdominal Ultrasound (USG)

  • A standard examination to establish a diagnosis.

3. Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) or MRI

  • If the results of the USG examination are inconclusive, patients are recommended to undergo MRCP, a non-invasive examination with high sensitivity and specificity for detecting gallstones.

4. Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

  • A procedural intervention for diagnosing and treating disorders or abnormalities in the pancreas, bile ducts, and gallbladder. It enables the doctor to capture images and examine the conditions of the bile ducts and pancreas in greater detail.
