Differences Between Typhoid and Dengue Fever

Sun, 18 Feb 2024

DBD and typhoid, two diseases that may seem similar but are actually different in many ways, including their causes, symptoms, and laboratory tests.

1. Different Causes:

- DBD is caused by the dengue virus transmitted through Aedes mosquito bites.

- Typhoid is caused by the Salmonella typhi bacteria that enter the body through contaminated food.

2. Differences in Symptoms:

- DBD is characterized by a sudden high fever, reaching up to 39-40°C, often accompanied by bleeding such as nosebleeds, bleeding gums, vomiting blood, and red spots on the skin.

- Typhoid causes a gradual rise in fever, usually starting with a normal body temperature. Its typical symptoms include digestive disturbances like constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and discomfort.

3. Different Laboratory Tests:

- To confirm a DBD diagnosis, doctors perform blood tests that include platelet and hematocrit counts, as well as NS1 and IgM/IgG tests.

- Typhoid can be diagnosed through blood tests that show the presence of Salmonella typhi bacteria, such as blood culture, Widal test, or PCR.

Recognizing these differences is crucial because their treatments and management are distinct. So, friends, let's remain vigilant about our health and don't hesitate to seek medical help if you experience suspicious symptoms. Health is our top priority
