DIABETES MELLITUS EXAMINATION PANEL

Mon, 23 Nov 2020
Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic autoimmune disease that lasts a lifetime caused by high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood because the body cannot release or use insulin sufficiently. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the balance of blood glucose levels.

The American Diabetes Association recommends having blood glucose screened if you are 45 or older, and an overweight adult of any age, with one or more additional risk factors for diabetes, a personal history of prediabetes or an inactive lifestyle. Blood sugar monitoring is necessary for achieving blood glucose control.

Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that cannot be cured. However, this disease can be controlled.
Diabetes can be detected by examining:
♡ Urine, to find out if there is excess glucose in the urine. ♡ Blood sugar at any time, which aims to measure blood glucose levels at random times.
♡ Fasting blood sugar (GDP) to measure blood glucose levels when the patient is fasting for 10-12 hours
GDP 2JPP, to measure fasting blood glucose levels for 2 hours calculated from the first intake of meals,
♡ Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (TTGO) / HbA1c Test (Hemoglobin glycation test) which aims to measure the average glucose level for the past 3 months.
