Causes of Mental Health Disorders for Millennial Generation

Did you know? Based on a study from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), the degree of mental health in the millennial generation tends to decrease with age.

One of the conditions that tops the list of mental health illnesses or mental disorders that affect millennials is depression.

Mental disorder is a disorder that has an impact on changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior (American Psychiatric Association).

There are many factors that cause millennials to experience mental health disorders.

According to psychologist Deborah Serani, the social environment when millennials grow up is the main factor.

Some of the factors that affect the mental health of the millennial generation, including:
- Super busy family environment, making the millennial generation grow up to be the neglected generation
- Millennials are faced with a very fast-moving flow of information.
- Psychological unpreparedness to face the changing times of being active and accepting the flow of information, will result in excessive anxiety.
- The role of social media as a source of information as well as a means of socialization, making millennial generation communicate more through writing. No eye contact or touch. This makes the millennial generation grow up with an indifferent attitude towards the surrounding environment.
- Tasks and work that take up time, make it difficult for the millennial generation to get enough free time for refreshing activities.

The fact that there are mental health disorders in the millennial generation cannot be ignored. Much needs to be done to save them.

As a society that cares for each other, we must be more aware of the needs of the millennial generation who have mental health disorders by creating an environment that is able to accept and care more for them.

By doing a lot of physical activity with friends who are willing to accept it, it is hoped that people with mental disorders will feel more useful. Fun and positive activities with friends can certainly get rid of their boredom after the daily routine and eliminate negative thoughts in them.
