Beware Of Some Diseases While Fasting
Tue, 21 Mar 2023Fasting has numerous benefits for the body, such as regulating blood pressure and reducing blood sugar. However, some people may be susceptible to certain diseases during fasting due to changes in their diet and daily habits.
Some people may experience negative effects due to changes in their diet and daily habits. For example, if someone is used to eating meals throughout the day and suddenly switches to only eating in the morning and evening, their body may have difficulty adjusting to the new routine.
- Constipation
Constipation is a common condition characterized by infrequent bowel movements, difficulty passing stool, and a feeling of incomplete bowel movement.
Constipation can cause hemorrhoids, as straining during bowel movements puts pressure on the veins in the rectal area and can cause them to become swollen and painful. Constipation can also cause pain and discomfort in the digestive tract, as well as a feeling of bloating in the stomach.
Drinking plenty of water, eating a balanced diet with plenty of fiber, and engaging in regular exercise can help to prevent constipation and promote good digestive health.
- Stomach Acid/Ulcer
For people with ulcers, it is important not to skip sahur meals, avoid foods that trigger stomach acid, and not rush to break the fast.
- Headache
Headaches can be a common side effect of fasting, especially if you are new to fasting or if you are fasting for an extended period. Some possible reasons why you may experience headaches during fasting are dehydration and low blood sugar.
Fasting can cause a drop in blood sugar levels, which can lead to headaches. To avoid this, make sure you are eating enough nutritious foods during your feeding window.
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Hypoglycemia is a medical condition characterized by abnormally low blood glucose (blood sugar) levels in the body. The symptoms of hypoglycemia can vary depending on the severity of the condition and how quickly the glucose levels drop. Mild cases may cause symptoms such as shakiness, sweating, nervousness, hunger, and a rapid heartbeat. More severe cases can cause confusion, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, seizures, and even loss of consciousness.
It's important to note that hypoglycemia can be a serious condition, especially in people with diabetes or other underlying health conditions. If you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia, it's important to seek medical attention promptly.
- Sore Throat
Sore throat can be caused by a variety of factors, including viral or bacterial infections, allergies, environmental irritants, dry air, and even acid reflux. When fasting, the lack of hydration can cause the throat to become dry and more susceptible to irritation, which can lead to soreness and discomfort. It's important to stay hydrated during fasting periods and avoid exposure to environmental irritants to reduce the risk of developing a sore throat.
